THE ONE DAY DETOX (from "Miracle Juices" by Charmaine Yabsley & Amanda Cross, introduced by Kitty Philips) Before going onto a rigid diet why dont you try a simple detox program for a day with fantastic and tentalizing juices blended to provide you with the best olygo elements and ensuring the elimination of accumulated toxins in your body after years of irregular meals and processed food. You will feel energized and will enjoy an overall sense of well-being. You could repeat this detox day once a week or every few months but you should never detox for longer than a week. By eliminating the foods which are harmful to your body your body will feel lighter and less bloated. Most people lose 1-1.5kg in the first week of detoxing. It could also be useful for you to continue the good work by banishing or reducing the intake of products like alchohol, processed carbohydrates and sugars and choose healthy alternatives. You should not detox if you - are underweight. - are pregnant or breast-feeding - have anaemia - have Type 1 diabetes - are following a course of prescription medications - have kidney failure - have severe liver disease Why should you detox? First of all you will be amazed to see how much clearer your skin will become after having eliminated all the toxins which may have been giving you a dull complexion. Your bowel movements will become more regular and your liver and kidney fuction will be more efficient. It will also reduce your stress level, hormone imbalances and other inflamatory conditions. Choose a day when you are not working and you can enjoy the wonderful results of this detox program. The One Day Detox 8:00am Drink a glass of warm water with a little lemon juice. It's a gentle way to begin the day, and the combination will help to flush the kidneys. 8:30am Depending on how you're feeling, try a juice with a little citrus fruit in it or apple, pineapple or melon. If this is the first time you've tried juicing, use a simple recipe such as carrot and apple, which will wake you up and begin the cleansing process or try one of these 2 recipes... Watermelon and strawberries detox juice 200g (7oz) watermelon 200g(7 oz) strawberries Juice the fruit and whizz in a juicer with a couple of ice cubes. Enjoy the preparation by maybe decorating with mint leaves or sliced strawberries. or Blackberries and pineapple juice 375g (12oz) blackberries 375g (12oz) pineapple or a small pineapple Juice the blackberries first, then the pineapple, to push through the pulp. Blend the juice with a couple of ice cubes and serve in a tall glass. 9:00am It's time to boost your circulation! Dry skin brushing is ideal, it stimulates both the blood and lymphatic circulation and help in the elimination of dead skin cells which can make your skin look dull. Begin at the feet and with your dry body brush, use gentle stokes in the upward direction. Rememeber that you are stimulating the circulation so you should always use stokes to the heart. when you have finished hop into a warm shower and enjoy the feeling of running water on your tingling body. if you feel brave enough, you can finish with a blast of cold water. After your shower dry and moisturize your skin with your favorite moisturizing cream or oil. 9:30 am Enjoy a glass of water or a herbal tea, such as peppermint, which will aid in the detoxification process. 10:00am If it's a nice day, go for a walk. By moving your body, you will be less likely to to feel the side effects of a detox, such as tiredness or headaches but also, you will be helping your body to get rid of the toxins. If you prefer you can also do some yoga or tai chi at home for example. 11:30am When you have finished exercising, have another glass of water or herbal tea. 12:30am It's lunchtime already so you need a filling juice to alleviate the hunger and reduce the temptation to snack. Try a combination of root vegetables and greens such as cucumber, spinach and beetroot or try one of those two recipes. Green juice 175g (6oz) carrot 90g (3oz) celery 100g (3.5oz) spinach 100g (3.5oz) lettuce 25g (1oz) parsley Juice the ingredients and whizz in a blender with a couple of ice cubes. you can decorate with parsley springs if liked. or try this combination... 90g (3oz) carrot 50g (2oz) green pepper 25g (1oz) spinach 25g (1oz) onion 50g(2oz) celery sticks 90g (3oz) cucumber 50g (2oz) tomato sea salt and pepper. Juice all the ingredients together and season with salt and pepper. you can decorate with tomato slices. 1:00pm Have another glass of water, or a cup of herbal tea if you prefer. Try ginger tea, which is good for the stomach or lemon tea maybe. 1:30pm As a detox programe can be quite tiring, go for a nap or read a book. You could also book a detox massage in one of your favorite spas. Or do some stretching or breathing exercices. You will probably lull yourself into a sleep anyway! 2:30pm Have another glass of water or herbal tea. 3:30pm You blood sugar levels may be low by now so you can prepare a juice full of fruits such as blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, oranges and mangos. You might find that it tastes slightly tart after a relatively food-free day, but you will feel energized afterwards. You can also try one of these two recipes: 100g (3.5oz) pineapple 100g (3.5oz) grapes 100g (3.5oz) orange 100g (3.5oz) apple 100g (3.5oz) mango 100g (3.5oz) banana Juice the pineapple, apple, grape and orange. whizz in a blender with the mango, banana and a couple of ice cubes for a super sweet smoothie. Serve decorated with orange wedges and mint. or 150g (5oz) grapefruit 50g (2oz) kiwi fruit 175g (6oz) pineapple 50g (2oz) frozen rasberries 50g (2oz) frozen cranberries Juice the grapefruit, kiwi and pineapple. Whizz in a blender with the frozen berries. Decorate with rasberries, if liked, and serve with straws. 5:00pm It's important to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day so have another glass of water now. 7:30pm Even though you will probably have to problem to sleep tonight, make sure you enjoy an evening juice which contains ingredients which aid relaxation and beat insomnia. Try juicing bananas, lettuce or apples or try one of those recipes... 250g (8oz) carrot 100g (3.5oz) figs 1 orange 2.5cm (1 inch) cube fresh root ginger roughly chopped 100g (3.5oz) banana. Juice the carrot, figs, orange and ginger. put the juice into a blender with the banana and 2 ice cubes and whizz for 20 seconds for a deliciuos smoothie. Add more ice cubes and decorate with sliced figs if liked. or 125g (4oz) pineapple without the skin 125g (4oz) grapes 50g (2oz) lettuce 50g (2oz) celery Juice all the ingredients and serve in a tall glass over ice. decorate with lettuce leaves if liked. 9:30pm Have another glass of water and a last herbal tea. so that you are ready to go to sleep, try a camomile tea, which is calming. Have a relaxing bath adding some aromatherapy oils such as lavender, ylang ylang rose and sandalwood. Make sure the water is not too warm. Dim the lights and play some nice, soothing and relaxing music... 10:00pm Its time for bed now and you've sucessfully completed your detox day. Remember that your stomach will be relatively empty by tomorrow morning, so dont celebrate the day with a fry-up start off gradually some fresh fruits and yogurt or wholemeal toast and honey. Opt for a light salad lunch, and possibly some steamed vegetable and rice for dinner, supplemented of course by a couple of fresh nutritional juices. |
